More about the Omron Walking Style II Pedometer
The Omron HJ113 pedometer is based on a different technology to most pedometers on sale today. Regular pedometers use a pendulum to detect vertical movement, as you walk the motion makes the pendulum swing and each contact the pendulum makes, the pedometer records a step. That's why on some pedometers you can hear a feint clicking as you walk. Inside this Omron pedometer is an accelerometer, a device that can detect movement in several axes. It uses this motion to create an electrical charge that is used to count steps. The result is you can wear this pedometer anywhere on your body or even carry it in a pocket or bag. And as there are no moving parts you won't hear any clicks. It is the latest pedometer technology but you will probably have come across accelerometers before, they are used in Wii handsets, car airbags and lots of other products.
